LANTAREN VENSTER

De Noorse gitarist Lage Lund maakte wereldwijd faam toen hij in 2005 de prestigieuze Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition won. In Lantaren/Venster trad hij al eens op in de band van Marcus Strickland. Net als altsaxofonist Will Vinson (afkomstig uit Engeland, en afgelopen jaar nog in Nederland te zien in de band van Jonathan Kreisberg) zocht hij zijn heil in New York. Beiden werkten daar met niet de minsten uit de jazzscene. Vinson speelde met o.a. Mike Stern, Ari Hoenig, Chris Potter en Kurt Rosenwinkel. Lund naast Strickland ook met David Sanchez, Ron Carter en Wynton Marsalis.

Niet al te lang geleden kwam Lage's laatste album Early Songs uit, en kwam Vinson met het album Promises. Daarna vonden beiden het tijd om hun krachten te bundelen in een nieuw kwartet.

Lund en Vinson combineren hedendaagse Europese jazz met de jazztraditie, met als belangrijke inspiratiebronnen de muziek van Kurt Rosenwinkel en Brad Mehldau. Dit levert harmonieuze en melodische composities op, veelal verpakt in frisse up-tempo arrangementen vol verrassende en spannende wendingen.
