De Amerikaanse singer-songwriter en pianist A.J. Croce heeft hetzelfde beroep als zijn vader, de in 1973 overleden Jim Croce. Maar waar vader een folky was, zoekt A.J. het meer in de blues, pop en country. Als we zijn debuutalbum A.J. Croce (1993) als startpunt nemen, zit hij alweer vijfentwintig jaar in het vak, een periode waarin hij is uitgegroeid tot een gelauwerde rootsartiest die zelfs Willie Nelson tot zijn fans mag rekenen.
Twee jaar geleden was er een re-issue van zijn tweede album That’s Me In The Bar (1995), maar nu kijkt A.J. weer naar de toekomst. Een nieuwe plaat, Just Like Medicine, is net verschenen! Op dit album werkt Croce samen met soulartiesten als Dan Penn (Aretha Franklin, Percy Sledge, Janis Joplin), David Hood (The Staple Singers, Boz Scaggs, Paul Simon), Colin Linden (Keb’ Mo’, Bob Dylan), The McCrary Sisters en de Muscle Shoals Horn Section. Hoogste tijd om Croce voor een intiem soloconcert naar Rotterdam te halen!
