In december 2013 gaf dit trio al een fenomenaal concert in LantarenVenster. Hun eerste echte gezamenlijke album Ramshackle Serenade (2014, Pirouet Records) moest toen nog uitkomen. Het is opgedragen aan de pas overleden gitarist Jim Hall. Downbeat: “It’s a beauty, showcasing the trio in characteristic slow-burn mode and with clarion-clear sound. Bernstein’s guitar lines are lyrically aglow, while Goldings excels in earthy undertow on the Hammond. Stewart thoroughly grooves on the kit without making a lot of noise.”
Tussen hun drukke schema’s als sidemen van grootheden als Maceo Parker, Pat Metheny, John Scofield en James Taylor, is er weer een gaatje gevonden voor een kleine Europese tournee. Dit trio, ook bekend als Larry Goldings Trio of Peter Bernstein Trio, bestaat nu ruim 20 jaar en heeft een subtiele, meer ingehouden benadering van de klassieke orgeltrio’s zoals die van de legendarische Jimmy Smith. Misschien meer cool dan sweat maar zeker niet minder soulful. Het drietal heeft een reputatie opgebouwd met muziek omschreven als hard-swinging modernism and funky boogaloos, lush ballads and lounge-lizard blues. Volgens de New York Times vormen ze het beste orgeltrio van het afgelopen decennium.
