ROD X Queer Cinema

various directors

We’ve invited Queer Cinema to curate a special program for the Rotterdams Open Doek Film Festival. Queer Cinema is LantarenVenster’s monthly film night dedicated to showcasing the best queer feature films, providing a platform for queer creators, and celebrating the diversity and creativity of the LGBTQI+ community. This time, we’re presenting five short films, followed by Q&As with the filmmakers themselves. You are warmly invited!

The program

The Ozard – Ciska Meister
In the rehearsal process of ‘The Ozard of Wiz’, a youth theatre production, the creators journey down the yellow brick road to create their queer utopia under the spotlights. Marie lea, Romy and Art look back on what it meant to play freely as children without judgement. When did shame first step onto the stage – and how did they get rid of this uninvited character?

PAKKA – Iniyavan Elumalai
Four queer Indian friends in the Netherlands bond over cricket and chosen family. When Kathir agrees to an arranged marriage to preserve ties back home, their friendship is tested—and he must choose between staying true to love or loyalty.

Marleen – Jop Leuven
In group therapy sessions, Lena tells about the relationships that have determined her life: with her father, with her first boyfriend and with Marleen, who helped Lena change with an open attitude.

Kus kus beng beng – Ollie Launchspach
In kiss kiss bang bang, a cinematic love portrait composed of home videos, photographs, diary entries, audio recordings and interviews, director Ollie Launspach explores the impact of his gender transition on his girlfriend, Sterre Mulder. As he attempts to make sense of her emotional world, the chaos within his own mind becomes increasingly apparent.
