Bubble Bath
In de geschiedenis van cinema is de badkamer een plek geweest van rust en comfort, maar ook van emotionele inzinking en moord. Met een speelse montage van scènes uit film noir, westerns, horror en slapstick schetst filmmaker Giulia Magno een breed landschap van emoties in een alledaagse locatie.
Throughout cinema history, the bathroom has been a place of comfort and tranquillity as well as emotional breakdown and murder. Through a playful montage of scenes from film noir, westerns, horror and slapstick, filmmaker Giulia Magno creates a rich landscape within an ordinary space.
Concrete
Tegen de achtergrond van het woningentekort, dat bij veel jonge mensen de twijfel wekt of ze ooit een eigen plek zullen hebben, volgt Concrete twee tieners die binnenglippen in een bouwplaats. Terwijl zij over de kale betonnen vloeren lopen, verandert het half voltooide gebouw in een plek om te dromen over een eigen toekomst. Deze tedere en hoopgevende korte film herinnert ons eraan dat een gebouw, voordat het een huis wordt, eerst iets is in de verbeelding van degenen die erin gaan wonen.
Set against the backdrop of a housing crisis that leaves many young people wondering whether they will ever find a place to call their own, Concrete, follows two teenagers who sneak into a construction site. While they wander through bare concrete floors, the unfinished building transforms into a space whether they dream a future of their own. This tender and hopeful short reminds us that before a building becomes a home, it first needs to exist in the imagination of those who will inhabit it.
A House in One Night
Een sprookje en werkelijkheid ineen. Met prachtige analoge beelden vertelt A House in One Night over de legende dat als je een huis in één nacht zou bouwen, het voor altijd van jou zou zijn. Tegelijkertijd halen de bewoners van een klein dorp in Wales hun warme herinneringen naar boven over twee zonderlinge vrouwen wier huis aan iedereen onderdak bood. Een film als een warm bad.
A fairy tale and reality become one. Through beautiful analogue imagery, A House in One Night tells the legend that if you built a house in a single night, it would belong to you forever. At the same time, the residents of a small village in Wales recall their warm memories of two eccentric women whose home welcomed everyone in need. A film that feels like a warm embrace.
Pacific Club
In het uitgestrekte zakendistrict van La Défense bevond zich een legendarische nachtclub: Pacific Club. Voor de Arabische jeugd uit de buitenwijken was dit dé plek waar ze zichzelf konden zijn. In prachtige, sciencefiction-achtige beelden met sfeervolle muziek vertelt Azedine, destijds 17 jaar oud, over het belang van deze plek voor een generatie die moest worstelen met racisme, de aidsepidemie en heroïne.
Beneath the vast business district of La Défense stood a legendary nightclub: Pacific Club. For Arab young people from the suburbs of Paris, it was the one place where they could truly be themselves. Through striking science fiction-inspired imagery and an atmospheric soundtrack, Azedine, who was just seventeen at the time, recalls the importance of this place for a generation forced to navigate racism, the AIDS epidemic and heroin addiction.
Not Built to Last
Daniel, een architectuurgids, leidt de Turkse architect Emre op een rondleiding door Rotterdam. Van De Rotterdam tot Het Depot, de mooiste plekken komen langs. De tour verandert langzaam van toon wanneer hun gesprek gaat over identiteit en vrijheid. Not Built to Last wordt zo een prachtig, melancholisch verhaal van queer verlangen verbonden aan stedelijke vergankelijkheid. Alsof de steden Rotterdam en Istanboel elkaar voor een dag
ontmoeten.
Daniel, an architectural guide, takes Turkish architect Emre on a tour of Rotterdam. From De Rotterdam to Het Depot, they visit some of the city’s highlights. As their conversation turns to identity and freedom, the tour gradually takes on a different tone. Not Built to Last becomes a beautiful, melancholic story of queer longing intertwined with urban transience, as though the cities of Rotterdam and Istanbul were meeting for a single day.
