Maximapark - from Greenhouses to a Living Landscape
Vijfentwintig jaar geleden werd dit gebied buiten Utrecht gedomineerd door kassenbouw. Vandaag is Máximapark een van de meest ambitieuze projecten in de Nederlandse landschapsarchitectuur: een bloeiend openbaar park waarin natuurbehoud en buurtgemeenschap samenkomen, ontworpen door West8 en met De Vlinderhof, een binnentuin ontworpen door Piet Oudolf. Met als gids landschapsarchitect Adriaan Geuze leidt de film ons door de opmerkelijke transformatie die het park heeft doorlopen vanuit een productielandschap in het groene hart van Leidsche Rijn, een van de grootste stadsuitbreidingsprojecten in Nederland. De film zet ook de landschapsarchitectuur in het zonnetje als een doorlopend proces van beheer en verzorging, en laat vrijwilligers, ecologen en parkbezoekers aan het woord over het werk dat altijd door moet gaan om het park door de seizoenen heen in leven te houden.
Twenty five years ago, it was an area outside Utrecht was dominated by greenhouses. Today, Máximapark is one of the Netherlands’ most ambitious landscape architecture projects: a thriving public park where ecology and community come together, designed by West8 and including De Vliderhof, an internal garden designed by Piet Oudolf. Guided by landscape architect Adriaan Geuze, the film recounts the history of this remarkable transformation from a productive landscape into the green heart of Leidsche Rijn, one of the biggest recent urban expansion projects in the Netherlands. The film also celebrates landscape architecture as a process of continuous stewardship and care, as volunteers, ecologists and park users talk about the constant work required to keep the park alive throughout the seasons.
