In 1975, a young Indian man named PK falls in love with a Swedish woman, Lotta. When she returns home, he sets off on a second-hand bicycle, with barely any money in his pocket, on a journey of more than 10,000 kilometres to find her again. What follows is a breathtaking adventure: across unfamiliar countries, over mountain passes and through endless landscapes, relying time and again on the kindness of strangers he meets along the way.
PK is a Dalit, formerly known as an “untouchable”: born at the bottom of India’s caste system and seemingly destined for a life of poverty and exclusion. Yet at his birth, an astrologer makes a remarkable, almost impossible prediction about his future love. When PK meets Lotta in New Delhi, it seems the prophecy is finally coming true. But when she fails to keep her promise to visit him again, he begins to doubt it.
Oscar-winning director Orlando von Einsiedel (The White Helmets) brings this extraordinary true story to life by retracing the journey with PK and a young actor portraying his younger self.
