Yellow Letters - Expat Cinema Rotterdam
Yellow Letters is a gripping political family drama directed by İlker Çatak. When actress Derya and theater teacher Aziz are targeted by the government for their critical views, they lose their jobs and suddenly find their future in jeopardy. Together with their daughter Ezgi, they are forced to move in with Aziz’s mother in Istanbul. As pressure from an increasingly authoritarian system mounts, not only their ideals but also their relationships with one another come under strain.
With great precision, Yellow Letters shows how political repression plays out behind closed doors: in a marriage, a family, and a community. What begins as a story about censorship and freedom of speech unfolds into a poignant portrait of people trying to stay true to themselves when everything is at stake. Timely, emotional, and surprisingly universal.
