Het Noorse trio Gurls bestaat uit drie invloedrijke muzikanten uit de Noorse jazzscene: vocaliste Rohey Taalah, saxofoniste Hanna Paulsberg en bassiste Ellen Andrea Wang. De muziek van dit trio is direct en zit vol zelfspot. De teksten gaan over de meest uiteenlopende onderwerpen; in ieder geval over dingen waar zelden over gezongen wordt.
Gurls is verfrissend, eenvoudig en eerlijk, en staat met één been in de jazz- en met het andere in de poptraditie. In Noorwegen speelt het trio voor uitverkochte zalen en maakte het furore in clubs door het hele land.
Rohey Taalah uit Oslo is een van de populairste zangeressen in Noorwegen en won met haar band Rohey de Trondheim Jazz Festival’s Talent Award in 2015. Saxofoniste Hanna Paulsberg bracht met haar band Hanna Paulsberg Concept met succes drie albums uit en werkte nauw samen met jazzlegendes Chick Corea, Bugge Wesseltoft en Bobo Stenson. Bassiste Ellen Andrea Wang speelde met Sting en Manu Katché, en richt zich nu op haar eigen jazzband Pixel en natuurlijk haar eigen trio waarmee ze vorig jaar een verpletterend optreden tijdens Festival Jazz International Rotterdam verzorgde.

Rohey Taalah from Oslo is one of the most popular singers in Norway, and she won the Trondheim Jazz Festival’s Talent Award in 2015 with her band Rohey. Saxophonist Hanna Paulsberg and her band, the Hanna Paulsberg Concept, have released three successful albums and have worked closely with jazz legends Chick Corea, Bugge Wesseltoft and Bobo Stenson.
