Andiamo a bere l'ultima - Expat Cinema Rotterdam
Things aren’t looking good for Carlobianchi and Doriano, both in their fifties and they’re almost broke. Since the 2008 financial crisis, the friends haven’t managed to pull off a lucrative scam. They’re waiting for the return of their old mate Genio, who stashed the loot from a job before fleeing to Argentina. In the meantime, the men pop into a pub where they meet Giulio, a shy and somewhat lost architecture student. What begins as a ‘last drink’ soon turns into a chaotic, boozy trip through the Venetian countryside – a journey on which the men in their fifties, with their unsolicited advice, hangovers and wild memories, give Giulio a fresh perspective on life and love.
Andiamo a bere l’ultima is a melancholic, witty and affectionate ode to friendship, failures and the art of getting lost just one more time. With his tragicomic road movie, director Francesco Sossai captures a changing world in a warm-hearted way: from an older generation having to adapt to life post-crisis to the ever-changing landscape of his youth. The result is a tipsy odyssey that shows that sometimes you only really make progress when you stray from the route for a moment. Andiamo a bere l’ultima premiered at Cannes and won eight David di Donatello Awards (the Italian film awards), including Best Film, Best Director and Best Leading Actor.
