Speciaal voor Festival Jazz International Rotterdam en Nijmegen is in het kader van ‘the voice’ vocalist Andreas Schaerer uitgenodigd voor twee performances; een in duo met gitarist Anton Goudsmit en een als gastsolist bij het New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra.
Het is zo’n acht jaar geleden dat gitarist Anton Goudsmit de Zwitserse stemkunstenaar Andreas Schaerer voor het eerst ontmoette. Tijdens zijn bezoek aan het National Arts Festival in Zuid-Afrika, waar Goudsmit de tent plat speelde met zijn band The Ploctones, gingen er geruchten over die ‘te gekke Zwitser’, die alles zou kunnen met zijn stem. Na zijn ontmoeting met Schaerer begreep Goudsmit de opschudding en deelden zij een dag later het podium in een speciaal opgezette collaboratie. Het plezier van improvisatie spatte er vanaf. Sindsdien is de samenwerking tussen Goudsmit en Schaerer steeds hechter geworden. Als duo ontwikkelden ze samen een project voor Jazzwerkstatt Bern.
Goudsmit en Schaerer werken vanuit eigen composities met een groot improvisatorisch gehalte. Ze putten uit allerlei genres en gieten hun vondsten al improviserend in een nieuwe vorm, die een heel eigen en uniek klankbeeld geeft.
Within the framework of ‘The Voice’, vocalist Andreas Schaerer has been invited by Festival Jazz International Rotterdam & Nijmegen for two special performances, one as a duet with guitarist Anton Goudsmit, and one as a guest soloist with the New Rotterdam Jazz Orchestra.
It is eight years since guitarist Anton Goudsmit first met Swiss vocal artist Andreas Schaerer. During his visit to the National Arts Festival in South Africa, where Goudsmit brought the house down with his band The Ploctones, he first heard rumours about some ‘amazing Swiss guy’ who could do anything with his voice. After his first encounter with Schaerer, Goudsmit understood what all the fuss was about, and the next day they shared the stage, to the delight of a packed house, in a specially arranged collaboration with rapper saxophonist Soweto Kinch under the direction of pianist Bokani Dyer. The performance oozed sheer pleasure. Ever since, the collaboration between Goudsmit and Schaerer has become increasingly closer. The duo has developed a project for Jazzwerkstatt Bern. Starting with their own compositions, Goudsmit and Schaerer work with a high degree of improvisation. They draw from all manner of genres and mould their discoveries into a new shape, resulting in a highly distinctive and unique sound spectrum. Festival Jazz International Rotterdam & Nijmegen has invited the duo for this special edition of The Voice.
