Met Architect of Brutal Poetry, de eerste film over Broos, brengt de Slovaakse filmmaker Ladislav Kaboš hier verandering in. Als vroege ‘brutalist’ ontwierp Broos tal van indrukwekkende gebouwen en bewees hoe fijnzinnig je met beton kon ontwerpen. Toen hij later in zijn leven Alzheimer kreeg maakte hij steeds meer notities over zijn veelbewogen leven. Dit zou de aanleiding worden voor deze poëtische documentaire over een bijzondere architect, rijp voor herontdekking.
Architect Herman Broos is celebrated in Brazil, but few people elsewhere have ever heard of him. Slovakian filmmaker Ladislav Kaboš changes that with Architect of Brutal Poetry, the first film about Broos. As an early ‘brutalist’, Broos designed numerous impressive buildings and demonstrated just how sensitively one could design with concrete. When he suffered from Alzheimer’s in later life, he started to make notes about his eventful life. They laid the foundation for this poetic documentary about a remarkable architect, worthy of rediscovery.
