‘We can’t imagine things at first, but some time later, they become routine’. Het Russisch constructivisme spreekt nog steeds tot de verbeelding als een onaffe, gebouwde utopie. Maar inmiddels liggen deze wereldmonumenten er abominabel bij, ze worden terloops gebruikt, het zijn ruïnes van de toekomst.
Drie Moskovieten hebben zich verbonden met het lot van de gebouwen en het gedachtengoed. Elena vecht om te voorkomen dat haar appartementenblok en de ernaast gelegen drukkerij worden geofferd voor nieuwbouw. Donatas houdt in zijn kunstenaarscommune het gedachtengoed op eigen wijze in ere en architect Vsevolod wil een gebouw behouden dat niet eens meer bestaat. Een prachtige en prijswinnende documentaire waarin de persoonlijke binding van mensen met de monumenten wordt afgewisseld met historische beelden.

Elena battles to prevent her apartment block and the neighbouring printworks from having to make way for new development, Donatas respects tradition in his artist colony in his own manner, and architect Vsevolod wants to preserve a building.
