Camera Buff (1979)
Jamie van der Klaauw will introduce this film that portrays a communist society and economy, differing from a capitalist society. He will explain why there is still value in communism. Van der Klaauw is political philosopher at the Erasmus University Rotterdam. The introduction is in English and the movie is English subtitled.
Camera Buff (Amator) is een vroeg werk van de Poolse regisseur Krzysztof Kieślowski, die in de jaren negentig groot succes kende met La Double Vie de Véronique en zijn Trois Couleurs: Blue, Blanc en Rouge, een verbluffende trilogie over vrijheid, vrijheid en gelijkheid.
In Camera Buff koopt Filip een 8mm-filmcamera ter gelegenheid van de geboorte van zijn kind. Omdat het de eerste camera in de stad is, wordt Filip door de communistische partij uitgeroepen tot officiële fotograaf. Een uitverkiezing die zijn bescheiden en tot dan toe tevreden leven plots verandert. Met inleiding (in het Engels) van politiek filosoof Jamie van der Klaauw.
Camera Buff (Amator) is an early work of Polish director Krzysztof Kieślowski, who enjoyed huge succes in the nineties with The double life of Veronique and his Three Colors Blue, White and Red, an ashtonishing trilogy on liberty, freedom an equality.
Filip buys an eight-millimetre movie camera when his first child is born. Because it’s the first camera in town, he is appointed to official photographer by the local party boss. His horizons widen when he is sent to regional film festivals with his first works but his focus on movie-making also leads to domestic strife and philosophical dilemmas.
