The European premiere of a remarkable film about four internationally renowned female designers from recent architectural history. After the screening a conversation will take place about the influence of female designers and city planners in the Netherlands, led by journalist and presenter Tracy Metz.

City Dreamers is een inspirerende documentaire over vier van de belangrijkste vrouwelijke (landschaps)architecten van de twintigste eeuw: Phyllis Lambert, Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, Cornelia Hahn Oberlander en Denise Scott Brown. Vier vrouwen die misschien niet dezelfde naamsbekendheid kregen als hun mannelijke collega’s maar minstens zoveel bereikten in een wereld die volledig door mannen werd gedomineerd. Met behulp van zeldzaam archiefmateriaal en interviews toont Joseph Hillel hoe deze vrouwen een nieuw perspectief op de stad ontwikkelden. Voor het eerst stonden niet gebouwen maar buurten, culturen en stedelijke ecosystemen centraal. De steden Montreal, Philadelphia, Vancouver en New York wisten ze voorgoed te veranderen.
City Dreamers is an inspiring documentary about four of the most important female architects and landscape architects of the twentieth century: Phyllis Lambert, Blanche Lemco van Ginkel, Cornelia Hahn Oberlander and Denise Scott Brown. Four women who perhaps did not enjoy the same name recognition as their male colleagues but who achieved just as much in a world totally dominated by men. With the help of rare archival material and interviews, Joseph Hillel shows how these women developed a new perspective on the city. For the first time, it wasn’t buildings but neighbourhoods, cultures and urban ecosystems that were the focus. They succeeded in changing the cities of Montreal, Philadelphia, Vancouver and New York forever.
