Construction Site volgt de transformatie van de historische Pathé Palace- bioscoop in Parijs, ontworpen door de Renzo Piano Building Workshop. Voor onze ogen ontvouwt zich een ingewikkeld, drie jaar durend restauratieproces van een art decomonument dat moet worden aangepast aan de eisen van de hedendaagse film. Construction Site follows the transformation of the historic Pathé Palace cinema in Paris, designed by Renzo Piano Building Workshop. A complex, three years long process of restoring a 1929 Art Deco landmark while adapting it to the demands of contemporary cinema, unfolds in front of our eyes. We witness architects, builders, clients, technicians and cinema professionals negotiate form, function, design constraints and unexpected challenges. In 2013 nam de gemeenteraad van de stad New York een wet aan die het verplicht stelt om kijkpanelen aan te brengen in bouwomheiningen. Despite being ubiquitous, construction sites are also some of the least accessible spaces in cities. And particularly in a city like New York, construction sites are everywhere all the time. In 2013, the New York City Council passed a law mandating that viewing panels be provided on construction fences. These small windows offer fleeting views to an urban landscape in constant transformation. Composed of photographs taken through these openings over the years, Sidewalk Superintendent is a minimalist visual essay that reflects on large scale developments and housing affordability. It is also an invitation to pay attention to these liminal viewing points that reveal where the city’s future is being constructed.
