Goethe Institut event: Nordweststadt: A Living Vision
Om het tekort aan woningen op te lossen, wordt in de jaren zestig op 161 hectare landbouwgrond een heel nieuwe stad uit de grond getrokken: Nordweststadt. Het is een zogeheten Raumstadt. Een ruim opgezette stad, ontstaan op de tekentafel, onder de rook van Frankfurt. De film vertelt de oorsprong van het plan en visie op wonen van destijds en stelt de vraag wat er vijftig jaar later over is van alle goede bedoelingen. Nordweststadt is een melting pot, maar nog steeds kansrijk.
To resolve the housing shortage in the 1960s, a completely new city was erected on 161 hectares of farmland: Nordweststadt. Known in German as a Raumstadt, this spacious city on the fringes of Frankfurt was conceived entirely on the drafting table. The film explains the origins of the plan and the perspectives on housing at that time, and asks what is left of all the good intentions fifty years later. Nordweststadt is a melting pot, but still has high potential.
