In het najaar van 2016 presenteerde trompettist en componist Josef Leimberg zijn debuutalbum Astral Progressions. Een krachtige plaat die voortborduurt op het werk dat Leimberg verrichtte op het met een Grammy Award bekroonde album To Pimp a Butterfly van de immens populaire rapper Kendrick Lamar. Daarop is een mix te horen van jazz fusion, world music, R&B en instrumentalistische hiphop, een sound die ook hoort bij Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, Robin Thicke en vele anderen voor wie Leimberg schreef.
Op zijn eigen Astral Progressions speelt een hele reeks van vernieuwers en ‘game-changers’ mee. Om er een paar te noemen: Kamasi Washington, Bilal, Georgia Ann Muldrow, Kurupt, Terrace Martin en Miguel Atwood Ferguson.

Trumpetist and composer Josef Leimberg released his debut album Astral Progressions in the autumn of 2016. This powerful collection builds on the work of Leimberg on the Grammy Award-winning album To Pimp a Butterfly by the hugely popular rapper Kendrick Lamar. It features a blend of jazz fusion, world music, R&B and instrumentalist hip-hop, a sound we are familiar with from Snoop Dogg, Erykah Badu, Robin Thicke and many others for whom Leimberg has written.
