Mitra + Q&A

Kaweh Modiri
After the movie Rudi de Boer will moderate an interview with the director Kaweh Modiri (in English).

37 years after her daughter Mitra was murdered in Iran, Haleh (Jasmin Tabatabai) leads a successful and peaceful life in the Netherlands. Everything is turned upside down when she thinks she sees Leyla, Mitra’s betrayer. The woman has only recently moved to the Netherlands and is now a loving mother herself. She doesn’t seem to recognize Haleh. With the help of her brother Mohsen (Mohsen Namjoo), Haleh tries to uncover the truth.

Director Kaweh Modiri based the film and the book of the same name on the life of his own mother. The story crosses borders and generations, from the politically turbulent 1980s in Iran to contemporary Europe – a Europe that often seems calm and tranquil, but is home to countless unspoken stories.

Mitra was selected for the Limelight program of the IFFR and for the Grand Jury Fiction competition of Movies that Matter.
