Nel Mio Nome - Queer Cinema x Queer Gym

Nicolò Bassetti

Welcome to the second edition of Queer Cinema! We are excited to announce that this edition will be hosted by Queer Gym, the first Dutch Gym focused on non-normative bodies! Are you ready for a Dance Party afterwards?

NEL MIO NOME

This documentary follows four young Italian trans masculine people, Leo, Nico, Andrea, and Raff, as they test the boundaries and possibilities of gender and transition. The film, which is executive produced by Elliot Page, is an intimate, but respectful display of these four friends. It is not a story of transition, but a mapping of four different discoveries of the self. Each sharing their different histories, struggles and desires.

SHORT PREVIEW: HIM/HAIR

Short film Him/Hair will be screened prior to Nel mio nome. Two years ago, filmmaker Eloi shaved off his long curls. The confrontation with his baldness makes him face what he always knew: he is not she. With the clippers as the starting signal, a long journey begins for him, but what if the final destination of such a journey seems to keep changing?

QUEER GYM

Queer Gym is founded by Romy Rockx (He/him, they/them) and based in Rotterdam West.

During my gender transition I had the privilege to work out in the home gym owned by my brother in law. I had the chance to get to know my “new” body without overthinking what people might be saying or where to change or what to wear. Everyone wants a save sport environment but this seems only accessible for the privileged ones. This needs to change!” – Romy Rockx

DANCE PARTY

Dance Party is not a class with specific steps, but rather a collective celebration of queer joy, offering suggestions on how to engage with dancing in a different way and embrace movement. It’s a party for queer movement and a tribute to bodies that go beyond the normative.
