Palestina, 1936. Yusuf pendelt tussen zijn geboortedorp en Jeruzalem, dromend van een toekomst voorbij de toenemende onrust. Maar overal in het land komen dorpen in opstand tegen de Britse koloniale macht. Het aantal Joodse vluchtelingen uit Europa groeit, en de Palestijnse bevolking verenigt zich in de grootste en langste opstand tegen 30 jaar Brits bestuur. Alle krachten bewegen onvermijdelijk op een botsing af.
Annemarie Jacir – bekend van Salt of This Sea en When I Saw You – werkte acht jaar aan dit epos. Palestine 36 is Palestina’s officiële inzending voor de Oscars en had zijn wereldpremière in de Gala Presentations van het Toronto International Film Festival 2025.

Director Annemarie Jacir — known for Salt of This Sea and When I Saw You — spent eight years making this epic. Palestine 36 was Palestine’s official submission for the Academy Awards and had its world première in the Gala Presentations of the Toronto International Film Festival 2025.
