Hosted by PEMBE Press:

Ramadan filmspecial: Stitching Palestine

Carol Mansour

Ramadan is a time of coming together as it embodies the essence of unity, community, and solidarity. For Ramadan this year PEMBE, platform for grassroots storytelling, will curate a special screening in LantarenVenster with two Palestinian films: A Space Exodus and Stitching Palestine. The evening will start with poetry and a little talk about the holy month of Ramadan. There will be mint tea and little sweets like baklava and kurabiye to stay in the post-iftar spirit.

Stitching Palestine (mid-length film)
Twelve Palestinian women sit before us and talk of their life before the Diaspora, of their memories, of their lives and of their identity. Their narratives are connected by the enduring thread of tatreez, the ancient Palestinian art of embroidery.

A Space Exodus (short film)
A Space Exodus envisions an extra-terrestrial view of Palestine: the first Palestinian lands on the moon, accompanied by an arabesque version of Kubrick’s A Space Odyssey soundtrack. The film is the first part in Larissa Sansour’s Palestinian sci-fi trilogy.

PEMBE press
PEMBE is a platform for grassroots storytelling founded by interdisciplinary artist & researcher Hasret Emine (Türkiye, 1992). By showcasing films and poetry of artists outside of a western and male gaze, they remind us of the importance of artists speaking for themselves, instead of about themselves, without themselves.
