Break
Drie stellen met hun kinderen. Een lang weekend op het platteland. Een reünie tussen vrienden die begint met plezier, maar waar snel oude conflicten, verborgen geheimen aan het licht komen. Break duikt in de dualiteit van het gezinsleven, de fantasie om terug te keren naar de tienerjaren, verlangens en de tegenstellingen van het burgerlijk leven en de tijd die ons ontglipt.
Een openhartige, actuele film die tegelijkertijd een dynamische komedie en een teder drama is. Vol met identificeerbare personages, werpt Break een verfrissend licht op de angst voor ouder worden en kwesties rond generatieverschillen op een manier die gedurfd, aantrekkelijk en onmiskenbaar grappig is.
Break werd geregisseerd door de Argentijnse filmmakers Hernán Guerschuny en Jazmín Stuart. De film won de Silver Colon voor beste actrice voor Pilar Gamboa op het Huelva Latin American Film Festival 2018.
Recreo (Break) will festively kick-off the countdown to second Rotterdam edition Spanish Film festival on May 8th at 20:00 at the emblematic LantarenVenster. The program launch event will set the tone for the upcoming edition, which will run from June 2nd til June 9th in LantarenVenster. We will introduce the 2019 program with the most powerful, thought provoking and enjoyable Spanish spoken films of the year and complimentary drinks in some of the screenings. First film co-directed by Argentinian filmmakers Hernán Guerschuny and Jazmín Stuart, Break won the Silver Colon for best actress to Pilar Gamboa at the 2018 Huelva Latin American Film Festival.
Three couples with their children. A long weekend in the countryside. A reunion between friends that starts with enjoyment and laughter becomes a cohabitation that will bring up old conflicts, hidden secrets, and unexpected encounters. Like an x-ray of those who are in their 40s, Break dives into the duality of family life, the fantasy of returning to teenage years, pending wishes, the contradictions of the bourgeois life, and the time that escapes us.
Candid and contemporary with moments of profound intelligence Break is at once a dynamic comedy and tender drama. Replete with identifiable characters, it shines a refreshing light on anxieties about middle age, weaving in questions around generational differences and class tensions in a manner that is bold, attractive and undeniably funny.
