De groeiende vraag naar varkensvlees in China heeft gigantische gevolgen voor de wereld. Soyalism is een indringende film over de complete productieketen van varkensvlees, van landroof in Mozambique, via de sojalandbouw in Brazilië tot de megastallen in Amerika. Enrioco Parenti en Stefano Liberti’s ambitieuze documentaire verkent de vele sociale en de ecologische gevolgen van de geglobaliseerde voedselproductie. Zo zien we hoe de inheemse bevolking in de Amazone van hun land wordt verdreven, de landbouw volledig wordt gedomineerd door een monocultuur van soja en hoe het mestafval van de varkenstallen zorgt voor een enorme hoeveelheid giftige stoffen in het drinkwater. Over hoe de planeet langzaam wordt uitgehold door een klein groepje multinationals.
The growing demand for pork in China has huge repercussions for the planet. Soyalism is a probing film about the complete pork production chain, from landgrabs in Mozambique, to soy agriculture in Brazil and mega stalls in America. Enrioco Parenti and Stefano Liberti’s ambitious documentary explores the many social and ecological consequences of a globalized food industry. We see how the native population in the Amazon is driven from its land, how agriculture is completely dominated by a monoculture of soy, and how manure from pig stalls leads to huge quantities of poisonous substances in potable water. About how the planet is slowly being eaten away by a handful of multinationals.
