The Healer
De zestienjarige Abdou (Ahmed Moustafid) woont in de buitenwijken van mijnstad Khouribga, onder de beschermende vleugels van zijn adoptiemoeder Mbarka (Fatima Attif). Door te leren lezen en schrijven probeert Abdou zijn waardigheid te hervinden. Abdou is een behulpzame en nuchtere jongen zonder kwaad in zich maar zijn leven verandert in een carrousel van illusies als hij de excentrieke zakkenroller Ch’Aayba (Mehdi Laarroubi) ontmoet.
De cynische Ch’Aayba lijdt aan een huidziekte. Abdou haalt hem over om zich te laten behandelen door Mbarka ‘the healer’ van de buurt. Mbarka beschermt haar eigen bevoorrechte positie beschermt door de andere buurtbewoners bewust in ontwetenheid te laten.
Met The Healer (2018) vertelt regisseur Mohamed Zineddaine een pakkend verhaal, wat zich afspeelt in een samenleving die balanceert tussen oude tradities en nieuwe gebruiken. Hij zal zelf aanwezig zijn om de film te introduceren en vragen te beantwoorden.

By learning how to read and write he tries to regain his dignity. Abdou is a helpful and down to earth boy incapable of harm. His life turns into a carousel of illusions when he meets the eccentric pickpocket Ch’Aayba (Mehdi Laarroubi).
The cynical Ch’Aaby suffers from a skin disease. Abdou convinces him took seek treatment from Mbarka, the neighbourhood healer. Mbarka protects her own privileged status by keeping the rest of the village knowingly in the dark.
With The Healer (2018), director Mohamed Zineddaine tells a gripping tale set within a society entangled between the past traditions and new ways of life.
