The Raspberry Reich (18+) - Queer Cinema
This past weekend, we were deeply shocked by the violent attack during Christopher Street Day in Berlin. A day meant to celebrate queer visibility, freedom and community was overshadowed by violence. Before the screening of Raspberry Reich, we will take a moment before the film to acknowledge the victims and reflect on what happened. After the screening, there will also be space for conversation and connection.
This edition of Queer Cinema is in collaboration with GenderBendingCruiseParty!
The Raspberry Reich is Bruce LaBruce at his most outrageous, queer, and gloriously over the top.
A group of self-proclaimed revolutionaries kidnaps the son of a wealthy banker, but their fight against capitalism soon spirals into a heady mix of camp, explicit sex, and razor-sharp satire. With slogans like “Heterosexuality is the opiate of the masses,” LaBruce takes aim not only at heteronormativity, but also at political dogma and revolutionary machismo. Provocative? Absolutely. Serious? Not always. It’s precisely in this playful collision of porn, propaganda, and absurdist humor that the film finds its power.
Shameless, funny, and defiantly subversive, The Raspberry Reich remains a queer cult classic that still delivers a satisfying kick against everything that’s considered “normal.”
