Queer Cinema x Queer Rotterdam: Tangerine

Sean Baker
Join us for a special holiday edition of Queer Cinema, in collaboration with Queer Rotterdam. The festive season feel complicated in different ways for many queer folks but also remind us to celebrate how beautifully we create our own circles of care and celebration. We’ll be screening Tangerine, a vibrant and heartfelt film that celebrates resilience, tenderness, and the power of chosen family. After the screening, stay with us for cozy winter-themed arts & crafts and a cup of hot chocolate. So, however you feel about the holidays, joyful, complicated, or somewhere in between, you’re warmly welcome here.

Tangerine follows two transgender sex workers, Sin-Dee Rella and her best friend Alexandra on Christmas Eve in Los Angeles. When Sin-Dee learns that her pimp, Chester, has been unfaithful, she goes on a chaotic quest to find him and his new lover, dragging Alexandra with her. The film is known for its raw, realistic portrayal of its characters, its use of humor, and its unique visual style, having been shot entirely on iPhones.

About Queer Rotterdam
Queer Rotterdam is a collective of local queers who, for the most part, have full-time jobs and dedicate their free time to volunteer and organize events exclusively for the adult LGBTQI+/queer community.
They aim to connect, support and empower local queers through small-scale, intimate, and inclusive events allowing for meaningful interactions and connections. Throughout the year, you can keep a close eye on the Queer Rotterdam website to join community events going from support groups (self-expression and acceptation, queer care, etc.) to Board Game Nights, Queer Cafés, Arts & Crafts workshops, and more!
