Nayla Al Khaja is de eerste vrouwelijke filmmaker van de Verenigde Arabische Emiraten en al decennialang actief als producente en regisseur van korte films. Met BAAB zet ze haar eerste lange speelfilm neer – een mijlpaal voor de cinema van de Emiraten. De film telt een uitzonderlijk internationaal team: zo componeerde tweevoudig Oscar-winnaar A.R. Rahman voor het eerst een score voor een Arabische film.
