Hot Milk - Queer Cinema Preview
Welcome to LantarenVenster’s Queer Cinema, a monthly movie night dedicated to showcasing the best of queer cinema. This evening we’re watching a special preview of the hot, sun-drenched literary adaptation Hot Milk.
Sofia and her mother Rose are spending the summer in the Spanish coastal town of Almería, where Rose is being treated by the charming Dr. Gómez for mysterious physical ailments that have left her confined to a wheelchair. Under the sweltering Spanish sun, Sofia finds herself mesmerized by the allure of the free-spirited Ingrid. As the heat intensifies and Sofia begins to come into her own, the bond between her and her mother grows increasingly fragile…
Based on the novel of the same name by Deborah Levy, Hot Milk explores the complex dynamics of identity, desire, dependency, and the longing for liberation. The cast includes Emma Mackey (Emily, Sex Education), Fiona Shaw (Killing Eve), and Vicky Krieps (Corsage, Phantom Thread). Hot Milk marks the directorial debut of Rebecca Lenkiewicz, known for her screenwriting work on The Salt Path, Ida, Disobedience, and She Said. The film premiered in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival.
