Vanuit heel Nederland en met zeven verschillende nationaliteiten, heeft een groep musici en kunstenaars, gedreven door hun passie, zich verenigd om muziekstukken uit de eerste helft van de 20e eeuw ten gehore te brengen die in de loop der tijd vergeten of verkeerd begrepen zijn. Het concept van “Tarab” belichaamt de fusie van muziek en emotionele transformatie, een staat van extase en volledige harmonie met de muziek, in overeenstemming met onze muzikale visie.
Het Tarab Choir streeft ernaar muziekstukken te selecteren op basis van hun artistieke en historische waarde, niet louter op hun historische betekenis, en wil daarmee verder kijken dan de populaire toeristische attracties. De dirigent van de groep, de gerenommeerde Maestro Majed Sarai Edin , presenteert een bijzonder en gevarieerd programma tijdens de afsluiting van het Arabisch Filmfestival, met een selectie van aangename en vrolijke liederen uit Syrië, Libanon, Tunesië en Egypte, evenals liederen gecomponeerd door Ziad Rahbani.
From across the Netherlands and representing seven different nationalities, a group of musicians and artists, united by their shared passion, have come together to perform musical works from the first half of the 20th century that have been forgotten or misunderstood over time. The concept of “Tarab” embodies the fusion of music and emotional transformation — a state of ecstasy and complete harmony with the music — in perfect alignment with our musical vision.
The Tarab Choir aims to select musical works based on their artistic and historical value, rather than their popular appeal alone, looking beyond the well-trodden tourist attractions. The ensemble’s conductor, the renowned Maestro Majed Sarai Edin, will present a distinctive and varied programme at the closing of the Arab Film Festival, featuring a selection of uplifting and joyful songs from Syria, Lebanon, Tunisia and Egypt, as well as compositions by Ziad Rahbani.

Ticket holders are cordially invited to the Closing Ceremony of the Rotterdam Arab Film Festival at 19:30 hrs (doors open at 19:00 hrs). During this evening, the jury presents awards to outstanding films and filmmakers, recognizing the stories and talent that shaped this year’s festival. The Closing Ceremony will be held in English and Arabic.
