No Other Choice - Expat Cinema Rotterdam
Miss seeing international films because you can’t yet keep up with the Dutch subtitles? Want to meet fellow expats and new Dutch folks? Love cinema? Then this is the event for you! Join Expat Cinema Rotterdam for the best international art house cinema with English subtitles.
No Other Choice is the new film from Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, The Handmaiden, Decision to Leave). This latest South Korean box office hit combines dark comedy and cinematic mastery in a socially critical thriller.
After 25 years of loyal service, Man-su (Lee Byung Hun, Squid Game) loses his stable job as a paper mill supervisor when the factory is taken over by foreign owners. When finding a new job proves harder than expected, Man-su and his family are forced to drastically adjust their lifestyle. In a desperate attempt to stand out in his next job interview, Man-su decides to eliminate the competition. How far would you go when there is no other choice?
No Other Choice balances dark humor, moral unraveling, and visual precision. The film is sharp, layered, and unexpectedly human: a compelling satire that makes the audience laugh, only to hold up an uncomfortable mirror immediately afterward.
The film premiered at the Venice Film Festival and won the International Audience Award at the Toronto Film Festival. South Korea’s submission for the Oscars is now on the shortlist for Best International Feature Film.
