Eric Bibb komt, met band, terug naar LantarenVenster om de muziek van zijn prachtige album Global Griot te presenteren. Het lijkt erop dat Eric de perfecte formule heeft gevonden voor zijn muziek, waarbij hij zijn eigen groovy hedendaagse blues mengt met zijn Afrikaanse roots, met een vleugje reggae en een portie gospel. De zoon van folkzanger Leon Bibb werd al van jongs af aan door muzikanten omringd. Pete Seeger, Paul Robeson en Bob Dylan behoorden tot de vriendenkring van zijn ouders. Van die laatste beroemde liedjesschrijver herinnert Bibb zich het volgende advies: “Hou het simpel en laat alle franje maar weg”.
Bibb is een veelzijdige gitarist en een uitstekende zanger bij wie de rootsmuziek in goede handen is. Hij is een onvermoeibare ambassadeur van de akoestische blues en noemt zichzelf: “a fingerpickin’ troubadour.” Over zijn nieuwe album Global Griot zegt hij: “two words that describe many of my friends and myself, as well. Connecting to the West African tradition of storytelling & oral history through music, this album features brothers & sisters from around the globe – serving the listener a tasty gumbo, spiced with hope for these challenging times.”
