Flat Girls - Queer Cinema Summer
This summer, we’re turning up the heat with a series of exclusive sneak previews you won’t want to miss. So grab your besties and celebrate a sizzling Queer Cinema Summer with us!
A super cute and universal story about budding love, queerness, friendship, dreams and inequality in Bangkok – from the producers of How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.
Anyone who becomes a police officer in Thailand is automatically offered a flat in a so-called “police flat”, in which he or she can live with the whole family. Young Ann and Jane, daughters of policemen, live in such flats. They have long been heart friends, but Jane actually harbours deeper feelings for Ann.
Their friendship does withstand the social differences between them; where Jane is surrounded by convenience and luxury, Ann has to shoulder the responsibility for her entire family after her father’s death. Things become more difficult when the young and handsome police officer Tong comes to live with them in the flat. Ann fancies him, after which the poison-green monster of jealousy rears its head.
Debuting director Jirassaya Wongsutin, in this coming-of-age drama written by herself, shows not only what social inequality, envy and dashed dreams do to a friendship, but also how accepted queerness is in Thailand today.
