Flamencodanseres Matilde Coral staat internationaal bekend als een van de grondleggers van de Sevilliaanse school binnen de flamenco. Ze werd geboren als Matilde Corrales González in het hart van Triana, in 1935, toen het nog een zigeunerwijk was vol mandenmakers en smidses.
Haar stijl is vrouwelijk, sensueel als Sevilla zelf, met ‘handen als duiven’, die de lucht strelen. Uit haar school komen grote danseressen voort als Merche Esmeralda, Manuela Carrasco, Cristina Hoyos en Isabel Bayón, die in deze documentaire beeldend over hun grote voorbeeld vertellen.
Matilde Corrales González, artistically known as Matilde Coral, is a flamenco dancer who inherited her style from Pastora Imperio and knew how to codify and express her knowledge by establishing the Sevillian school of dancing. Her style is utterly feminine, sensual like Sevilla itself with “hands like doves”, caressing the air. Since 1967 Matilde Coral has been teaching her style of dancing at her own academy located in Triana, once a gypsy quarter full of blacksmiths and basket weavers, where she was born.
