Lotte am Bauhaus
Honderd jaar na oprichting vertelt filmmaker Gregor Schnitzler het onderbelichte verhaal van de vrouwelijke studenten van Bauhaus. Vanwege hun ‘gebrek aan ruimtelijk inzicht’ werden ze door Walter Gropius verbannen naar de weefafdeling. Lotte am Bauhaus volgt het leven en werk van de jonge Lotte, een ambitieuze en getalenteerde vrouw die zich tegen de wensen van haar familie inschrijft bij het Bauhaus. De film is geïnspireerd op het werkelijke leven van de invloedrijke ontwerper Alma Siedhoff-Buscher, vooral bekend vanwege haar kleurrijke houten speelgoed en kinderkamers. A century after the founding of the Bauhaus, filmmaker Gregor Schnitzler tells the neglected story of the school’s female students. Walter Gropius banished them to the weaving department because of their ‘lack of spatial insight’. Lotte am Bauhaus follows the life and work of the young Lotte, an ambitious and talented woman who enrols at the Bauhaus against the wishes of her family. The film is inspired by the real life story of the influential designer Alma Siedhoff-Buscher, known in particular for her colourful wooden toys and children’s rooms. Splendid images bring the Bauhaus to life a century later.
