In het licht van klimaatverandering, bodemdegradatie, niet-duurzame landbouwmethodes en de recente verstoringen van de wereldwijde toeleveringsketens, wordt voedselonzekerheid een steeds urgenter probleem. Terwijl we in een afvalcontainer duiken, onze volkstuintjes verzorgen of de nachtelijke capriolen observeren in een hi-tech kas, denken we na over onze relatie met voedsel.
In the face of climate change, soil degradation, unsustainable agriculture practices and disruptions to global supply chains, food insecurity is quickly becoming an increasingly urgent issue. We contemplate our relationship to food as we dumpster dive, tend to our allotments or voyeuristically observe the night time antics in a hi-tech greenhouse.

In een industriële kas controleren en sorteren machines de natuur. Camera’s stellen de robots in staat hun werk te doen. Mensenhanden grijpen enkel in om alles wat krom is recht te zetten, delicate producten te planten of de machines schoon te maken zodat alles soepel blijft lopen. Producten moeten op niveau zijn, zodat ze marktklaar zijn voor de consument. Alleen ’s nachts, wanneer de wereld slaapt, neemt onverwachts leven de controle over.
Machines are checking and sorting nature in an industrial greenhouse. Cameras enable the robots to do their work. Human hands intervene only to straighten anything that is crooked, plant delicate items or clean the machines to ensure things continue to run smoothly. Products must be up to standard so that they are market-ready for the consumer. Only at night, when everything is asleep, does unexpected life move in and take control.
