De puntige koffiepercolator van Alessi, wie kent hem niet? De Italiaanse architect Aldo Rossi liet bij zijn overlijden in 1997 een zeer gevarieerd oeuvre na: ontwerpen voor gebouwen, meubels, gebruiksartikelen, speelgoed en een enorme hoeveelheid tekeningen en teksten. Rossi wordt wel de ‘architect van de herinnering’ genoemd, vanwege zijn vormentaal vol archetypische én persoonlijke beelden. Strandhuisje of classicistisch bouwwerk, in zijn tijdloze architectuur passen ze op een vrolijke manier bij elkaar. In Aldo Rossi Design, gemaakt voor een oeuvretentoonstelling, praten zijn vrienden liefdevol over zijn unieke nalatenschap en originaliteit en de persoonlijke manier waarop hij kleur gaf aan de architectuur. Met onder anderen Daniel Liebeskind, fan van het eerste uur.
Who doesn’t know the pointy coffee pot by Alessi? When he died in 1997, the Italian architect Aldo Rossi left behind a highly varied body of work, ranging from designs for buildings, furniture, utensils and toys to a vast quantity of drawings and texts. Rossi is called the ‘architect of memory’ on account of his design language, replete with archetypical and personal images. Beach houses and classic buildings blend harmoniously and cheerfully in his timeless architecture. In the film Aldo Rossi Design, made for a retrospective, many friends speak lovingly about his unique legacy and originality, and the personal way he lent colour to architecture. Among them Daniel Liebeskind, a fan from the very start.

Twee schattige Siciliaanse strandhuisjes spelen de hoofdrol in deze korte film, samen met allerhande patronen met ruitvormige raampjes, bandensporen, vliegers en parasols. Maar ook: de dame die elk ochtend op de boulevard haar gymnastiekoefeningen doet, de man die, weer of geen weer, elke dag een duik neemt, en de dagelijkse gang met de metaalzoeker. Elke herfst worden de strandhuisjes van het strand gehaald, aan het begin van de zomer keren ze, na een frisse verfbeurt, weer terug. Hebben we überhaupt invloed op de mallemolen van het leven, vraag je je bij zoveel repetitie af.
Two cute Sicilian beach cabins play the lead role in this short film, together with all sorts of patterns with diamond-shaped windows, tyre marks, kites and parasols. But also: the lady who does her fitness exercises on the boulevard every morning, the man who takes a dip every day no matter what the weather, and the daily walk with the metal detector. Every autumn the cabins are taken off the beach, returning again at the start of summer with a fresh lick of paint. Do we have any influence at all on the merry-go-round of life, you wonder, with all that repetition?
