Na zijn afscheid van het Bauhaus en vertrek uit Europa in 1937 naar de VS kreeg Marcel Breuer in Connecticut een unieke kans om te bouwen. Onder de hoede van enkele vooruitstrevende opdrachtgevers kon hij hier zijn eerste experimentele huizen bouwen. De meest wilde jaren van zijn leven, een mix van uitbundige feesten en grote maatschappelijke betrokkenheid. After bidding farewell to the Bauhaus and leaving Europe for the US in 1937, Marcel Breuer received a unique opportunity to build in Connecticut. Here he could construct his first experimental houses under the auspices of some progressive clients. These were the wildest years of his life, a mixture of lavish parties and deep social involvement. From his resistance to the Cold War mentality of the 1950s to the exuberant free love of the 1960s, Breuer’s Bohemia shows the revolutionary idealism behind the designs of this legendary Hungarian master.
