C'est pas moi + Allégorie citadine - Expat Cinema Rotterdam

Leos Carax, Alice Rohrwacher & JR

This screening is part of Previously Unreleased 2025.

Two short films: the first by, and the second featuring, Leos Carax (Les amants du Pont-Neuf, Holy Motors, Annette).

C’est pas moi
The Centre Pompidou asked filmmaker Leos Carax to respond in images to the question: “Where are you, Leos Carax?”The director of Pola X (1999), Holy Motors (2012), and Annette (2021) created a free-style self-portrait, full of winks and nods to his exuberant body of work. At the same time, it is a loving tribute to Jean-Luc Godard and David Bowie, as well as an exploration of the power and politics of image-making.

Allégorie citadine
In the Allegory of the Cave, Plato wonders: what would happen if one of the prisoners managed to break free from his chains and escape the cave? And what if that prisoner were Jay, a seven-year-old boy?
After their short film Omelia contadina, Alice Rohrwacher (La Chimera) and photographer JR teamed up once again for this imaginative fusion of film and philosophy, with a striking role for Leos Carax. Allégorie citadine illustrates how images – whether shadows or tangible objects – can distort or reveal the truth.
