Wanneer een dag in het leven van een Egyptische filmmaker ontspoort, krijgt hij een steeds realistischer beeld van de verschillen tussen klasses en genderrelaties, in deze ontroerende sociale satire van regisseur Ahmad Abdalla.
Moe (Karim Kassem) heeft problemen. Zijn filmset zit vol met off-screen-drama, zijn romanschrijver is in de gevangenis beland, en zijn vriendin heeft hem verlaten. Bovendien wil hij liever werken aan zijn eigen films, niet aan de commerciële rommel die hij nu gedwongen wordt te maken. Met dit alles op zijn bord, wil hij niets anders dan snel de editing afronden aan de andere kant van de stad. Als hij in de taxi stapt om dat te gaan doen, heeft hij geen idee hoe lang zijn dag op het punt staat te worden …
Terwijl Moe samen met taxi-chauffeur Mostafa en de vurige Toutou zich een weg baant door het chaotische verkeer van Cairo, komt hij er steeds meer achter dat hij vervreemd is geraakt van de maatschappij. In de loop van de nacht begint Moe de diepere lagen tussen en de ongelijkheden rond kwesties als klassen- en genderrelaties te zien.
Zoals regisseur Ahmad Abdalla deed met zijn vorige films Rags & Tatters, 18 Days, Microphone en Heliopolis, richt hij zijn camera opnieuw op de sociale situatie in Egypte. Deze keer doet hij dit echter met droge humor wat resulteert in een ontroerende sociale satire. Zoals Moe op een gegeven moment opmerkt: “Je kunt het universum niet veranderen.” Maar zoals hij zelf ontdekt, kun je misschien wel je leven veranderen.

Plus, all he really wants to do is work on his own films, not the commercial gigs he’s been taking. With all this on his plate, the last thing he relishes is finishing editing across town. In trying to navigate chaotic Cairo traffic, Moe finds himself drawn away from the world — and social milieu — he knows along with his driver, Mostafa, and Toutou, a firecracker of a character from the wrong part of town. Over the course of the night, Moe begins to see the deeper ramifications and the inequalities around issues like class and gender relations.
As director Ahmad Abdalla did with his previous films Rags & Tatters, 18 Days, Microphone, and Heliopolis, he once again turns his camera on the social situation in Egypt. This time, however, it’s with dry humour and meta-cinematic flourishes. The result is a touching social satire. As Moe remarks at one point, “You can’t change the universe.” But, as he finds out, you might be able to change your life.
