Het brutalistisch bouwwerk Der Mäusebunker (De Muizenbunker) is een voormalig laboratorium voor dieronderzoek in Berlijn. Het betonnen gebouw staat sinds 2010 leeg. Het machtige Charité-ziekenhuis wil het icoon laten afbreken om plaats te maken voor nieuwe gebouwen. Tegelijkertijd vecht een groep toegewijde mensen bestaande uit politici, natuurbeschermers, architecten, galeriehouders en studenten voor behoud van dit prachtig stukje architectuur uit de Koude Oorlog. The Mouse Bunker, or colloquially known as Mäusebunker, is a former animal research laboratory in Berlin. Vacant since 2010, the city’s powerful Charité hospital wants to destroy the brutalist icon to make room for new buildings. Meanwhile, a passionate group consisting of politicians, preservationists, architects, gallerists and students are fighting to preserve this magnificent example of Cold War era architecture. Filmmaker Nathan Eddy allows both sides of the debate to state their case, thus providing a comprehensive overview of what is in stake as cities try to balance the need to evolving its building stock and to maintain a sense of historical context. To preserve or to demolish? Eddy’s film leaves it up to the audience to decide for themselves.
