The North Circular Road is an 18th-century road that separates the centre of Dublin from the inner-city suburbs and houses a number of important institutions and landmark buildings, such as a prison and a former psychiatric institution, housing estates, and multiple working class communities. It is also home to the Cobblestone Pub, the heart of Dublin’s recent folk music revival, currently threatened by relentless real estate development. Using music as the narrative instrument, director Luke McManus paints a portrait of Dublin’s history through a tour of the North Circular, touching upon the topics of colonialism, mental health, the struggle for women’s liberation and gentrification, with each stop along the way.
