In de buitenwijk van Rio de Janeiro staat Pedregulho, een utopisch woningbouwproject van de Braziliaanse architect Affonso Eduardo Reidy. Pedregulho: a Brazilian Architectural Icon vertelt de woelige geschiedenis van dit modernistische icoon. Het prijswinnende ontwerp, dat werd bewonderd door Le Corbusier, diende destijds als prototype voor de huisvesting van de toenemende hoeveelheid stadsmigranten. Het complex werd het symbool voor het problematische en vaak corrupte huisvestingsbeleid van Brazilië. Inmiddels, zestig jaar later, is de renovatie van het verwaarloosde gebouw voltooid en lijkt het op te klimmen uit de duistere periode die het moest doorstaan.

Pedregulho: a Brazilian Architectural Icon chronicles the turbulent history of this modernist work. The prize-winning design, admired by Le Corbusier, served at the time as a prototype for housing the increasing numbers of migrants flocking to the city. The complex became a symbol of the problematic and often corrupt housing policy in Brazil. Now, sixty years later, the renovation of the neglected building has been completed, and it seems to be climbing out the dark period it had to go through.
