Pyramiden
Pyramiden is een verlaten mijnwerkersplaatsje op Spitsbergen. Het bijzondere is dat het uit de Sovjetperiode stamt. In 1927 kocht staatsbedrijf Arktikoegol de mijnrechten van een Zweeds bedrijf. In zijn hoogtijdagen woonden er zo’n duizend mannen, vrouwen en kinderen, maar in 1998 sloot de mijn en kwamen de typisch communistische bouwsels leeg te staan. Met zo’n decor heb je niet veel verhaal meer nodig. In de post-apocalyptische sciencefictionfilm Pyramiden dwaalt een door IJsbeerdromen getormenteerde jager een aantal dagen door het plaatsje. Hij draait er oude films over Pyramiden in de verlaten bioscoop en verliest steeds meer zijn grip op de werkelijkheid. Dat hij na zijn vertrek een futuristische zadenbank tegenkomt helpt niet echt.

In its heyday it was home to a thousand men, women and children, but themine closed in 1998 and the typical communist structures were abandoned. With adecor like that, you don’t need much of a story. In the post-apocalyptic sci-fifilm Pyramiden, a hunter tormented by dreams of polar bears spends dayswandering around the settlement. He watches old films about Pyramiden in theabandoned cinema and gradually loses his grip on reality. Things aren’t really helped when he comes across a futurist seedbank after his departure.
