Voor het draaien van zijn eerste langspeelfilm schakelt kunstenaar Pierre Bismuth, een van de scenaristen van de film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, een privédetective en drie scenarioschrijvers uit Hollywood in voor de zoektocht naar ‘Rocky II’, een vreemde namaakrots die verborgen ligt in de Mojavewoestijn. Onder het rotsblok, dat zijn naam ontleent aan de film van Sylvester Stallone, ligt een mysterieus voorwerp dat veertig jaar geleden door de Amerikaanse kunstenaar Ed Ruscha werd vervaardigd en ondanks de wereldfaam van de artiest tot op vandaag onbekend bleef. For the creation of his first full-length film, artist Pierre Bismuth, one of the screenwriters who worked on the film Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, hires a private detective and three scriptwriters from Hollywood for the quest to find ‘Rocky II’, a strange fake rock that lies hidden in the Mojave Desert. Under the rock, which derived its name from the Sylvester Stallone film, lies a mysterious object manufactured by American artist Ed Ruscha, which remained unknown until this very day, despite the artist’s global fame. The unique film Where is Rocky II? reflects wittily on America’s cultural history and Hollywood mythology. An absurd story set against the backdrop of a cinematic landscape.
