Opening AFFR 2022 - Best in the World
Best in the World is de openingsfilm van het Architectuur Film Festival Rotterdam 2022 dat plaatsvindt van 5 t/m 9 oktober in Theater Zuidplein en LantarenVenster.
Kaartverkoop voor alle overige films van AFFR start op dinsdag 13 september 2022. Cineville en de LV strippenkaart zijn niet geldig voor de openingsfilm, maar wel voor de rest van het festival. Rotterdampas is tijdens het gehele festival niet geldig. Voor de openingsfilm is er wel korting voor CJP-houders en studenten. Leden van Club Fountainhead en houders van een Festivalpas kunnen tickets bestellen via de website van AFFR.
Locatie: Theater Zuidplein. Samen met het Copenhagen Architectuur Festival (CAFx) presenteert het AFFR in Theater Zuidplein de wereldpremière van Best in the World (Hans Christian Post, 2022), een verontrustend relaas over Kopenhagen dat dreigt te bezwijken onder het eigen succes. Er is een liveverbinding met CAFx voor een Q&A met regisseur Hans Christian Post. Na afloop van de film vieren we in de foyer van Theater Zuidplein het begin van een festival vol film, ontmoeting en debat.
De documentaire Best in the World biedt een confronterende kijk achter het fotogenieke plaatje van Kopenhagen. De Deense hoofdstad staat bekend als een van de meest leefbare en creatieve steden ter wereld. Dertig jaar geleden verkeerde de voormalige industriestad echter op het randje van faillissement. Met grootse beleidsplannen en meeslepende architectuur heeft Kopenhagen een veelgeprezen transformatie ondergaan. Maar wie betaalt daarvoor de prijs? In de stad manifesteert zich steeds meer ongelijkheid; wie profiteert uiteindelijk van deze ‘beste stad ter wereld’?
Schrijver en filmmaker Hans Christian Post analyseert op vlijmscherpe wijze de recente ontwikkeling van Kopenhagen door de ogen van architecten, bestuurders en activisten. Een teken aan de wand voor steden over de hele wereld, inclusief ons eigen Rotterdam.

The Danish capital is often considered one of the most liveable, inclusive and creative cities in the world. But this was not always the case. Thirty years ago, Copenhagen was an industrial city on the brink of bankruptcy. Through political and architectural engineering the city has experienced a complete transformation, but at what cost? Today the city is an engine of inequality both within its own borders and in the surrounding countryside. Who ultimately gets to benefit from this desirable new city?
Celebrated writer and filmmaker Hans Christian Post takes stock of Copenhagen’s evolution through the eyes of architects, activists and writers to assess what is at stake. A cautionary tale for cities across the world, including our very own Rotterdam.
Best in the World will have its parallel world premiere at the Architecture Film Festival Rotterdam and the Copenhagen Architecture Festival and is followed by a Q&A via livestream with director Hans Christian Post. After the screening, we celebrate the opening of a festival filled with films, get-togethers and discussions in the foyer of Theater Zuidplein.
